Resumo: The text begins by looking at the development process of the Brazilian automotive industry presenting the reader with a brief historical review initiated since its inception in 1930 until the 2000 focusing on the period between 1996 and 2010 and with the theoretical model of Structure-Conduct-Performance to identify the functioning of this market over the period specified. Subsequently we present the production chain of the automotive industry to further address the issue of deindustrialization. The idea is to see if the behavior of the market can guide us about the process and not about the deindustrialization of the automotive sector. The hypothesis is that the competition factor and encourages investments which in turn tend to provide increases in all the variables that make up the E-C-D model and in this sense, we will analyze the variables Market concentration, Herfindahl-Hirshman, Advertising Expenses, intensity of Capital Investment in Machinery, Building, Transformation Rate, Profit Margin and Productivity. We will also approach this data for Fiat because of its representation in the Brazilian market. The paper seeks to examine the Pearson correlation coefficient and the variables mentioned already found in other literatures.
