Resumo: This dissertation presents a historical understanding of the educational model and school culture of the Colégio Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Our Lady of Mercy College) of the Irmãs Franciscanas de Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho (Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel) from 1947 to 1964. The research was based on documentary research techniques, based on sources collected and cataloged in the archive of the Colégio Nossa Senhora da Piedade (College Our Lady of Mercy), Curia of the Archdiocese of Aracaju, Parish of Our Lady of Mercy and Historical and Geographic Institute of Sergipe, as well as personal collections of former students. Likewise, the oral history methodology was used, collecting oral reports of narrators-collaborators who had relations with the institution in the period specified in the temporal cut. The treatment of these sources was deepened from the concepts of school culture, representation and appropriation. The work presents general aspects of the model of Catholic education in the period specified, the origins of the educational project of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel, especially the historical configurations of the Colégio Nossa Senhora da Piedade (College of Our Lady of Mercy), installed in 1947 in the city of Lizard (SE), the relationships established between agents of educational action; the physical space, the curriculum and the various ways of molding the behaviors and values of young people from La Rioja. The practice of the Colégio Nossa Senhora da Piedade (College of Our Lady of Mercy) became significant as faith was placed as a mediator of education, an important but not exclusive element. In fact, through faith, we sought to interact with the social context, aiming at the formation of citizens and the intellectual development of the students. In the founding records of the Congregation of the Irmãs Franciscanas de Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho (Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel) it is possible to understand the representation of missionary action as an educational action that would have the function of carrying out the moral sanitation of the population ordained by Christian-Catholic morality.
