Resumo: In Brazil, the export of mango has increased significantly, being responsible for a high economical income. Consumers have become more selective and demanding, requiring the development of methods and the establishment of reference parameters for quality determination, such as fruit dry matter (DM) content. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of different portable NIR spectrometers for the determination of quality parameters in 'Keitt' mangoes at harvest, and to select the most appropriate equipment for this purpose; as well as to determine the optimal DM range that the fruits must have at harvest, taking into account the shipping time and consumer preference. The spectrometers evaluated were F-750 Produce Quality Meter (Felix Instruments, United States); that allows the recording of data in the spectral range of 400 to 1100 nm; Tellspec (Tellspec, United States); that allows the recording of data in the spectral range from 900 to 1700 nm; and Scio (Consumer Physics, Israel); that allows the recording of data in the spectral range from 700 to 1100 nm. According to the results, all three equipments present RMSECV relative to ≤ 10, so the obtained models were considered of high efficiency and precision in determining the DM content in 'Keitt' mangoes produced in the Submedia of the São Francisco Valley. With this, the F-750 spectrometer was considered the best choice for mango analysis in the field and packing house due to the fact it does not require internet access to be operated, which is a great limitation of the two spectrometers. In addition, 'Keitt' mangoes must be harvested with DM contents above 16% to ensure high consumer quality, increasing purchase intention and consumer preference, compared to mangoes harvested with lower DM contents.
