This work analyses the chronicle series “Aquarelas” by Machado de Assis, which were published in the journal O Espelho, 1859, corresponding the first Machadian period. In the series, the author discusses the parasitism through the five chronicle, displaying types of parasites prominent of Brazilian society. Machado takes out the thematic of the dialogue O Parasita by the author Luciano de Samosata who starts of the menipeia satire and put together the philosophical dialog and the comedy. His contribution to the literature has spanned generations, influencing authors like Rabelais, Swift, Voltaire e Machado de Assis. To analyze the Machadian aquarelles we have supported mainly by the Bakhtin (2002, 2010, 2011), Brandão (2001, 2015), Brayner (1982, 1992), Julia Kristeva (1974), Sá Rego (1989) studies. Our methodology is based on the Comparative Literature, seeking the bookish Sandra Nitrini (2015) orientation. We compare the chronicle to the Luciano dialogue in order to understand the enlargement and modernization from the thematic of the parasitism in the Bruxo do Cosme Velho perspective.
