In this dissertation we discuss the performances of Father Alfredo Dâmaso and Colonel José Abílio in the municipality of Bom Conselho – PE, between the 1920s and the 1930s, and all the tensions and conflicts between them. We seek to highlight an analysis of coronelismo as the main theme in this study, because, due to the importance and direct connection of this system with the cities of the time and the two characters treated here, it will serve to understand the political, social and cultural forms that created a great structure among politicians, oligarchs and religious during this period. Another important aspect analyzed in the course of the work is the power relations, in addition to the Colonel and the Priest, among other characters that are also gaining strength in the narrative. Through authors such as Victor Nunes Leal, José Murilo de Carvalho, Marcos Vinicios, Boris Fausto, Emília Viotti da Costa, we base our discussions on the use of documentary sources available in the Memorial of Father Alfredo Dâmaso, located in Bom Conselho-PE and in clippings from some newspapers both in Pernambuco and in other parts of the country.
