This dissertation thematizes the role of music in the process of emergence of national and regional identities. Using Musical production Luiz Gonzaga as ethnographic source, seeks to demonstrate the construction process of the Northeast Identity Discourse in such work. Considers that in the context of the second half of the twentieth century, it was common to use music, conceived as a defining element of "authentic" Brazilian culture, with the radio as the main vehicle for the dissemination of culture we want to national and migrant artists of various regions of the country as authoritative voices in the dissemination of these cultures. It is within this perspective that is gestated the socalled Brazilian popular music (MPB) doing some artists take a regional identity.
