Resumo: The public management of knowledge and the types of appropriation of scientific knowledge focused on environmental issues, produced at the Federal University of Sergipe, is the central object of this research. The research methodology is based on the interpretive paradigm. The chosen method was exploratory and descriptive with qualitative and quantitative data survey. Two descriptors were used to delimit the identification of the knowledge produced: environment and sustainable, complementing with correlated terms such as: environmental, environment, ambiance and sustainability. The Pro-Rectory of Pos-Graduate Studies and Research of the Federal University of Sergipe was the main sector selected for the development of the study, located in the University City Prof. José Aloísio de Campos, in the city of São Cristóvão/SE, characterizing the empirical field research. The techniques of data collection were active participant observation, semistructured interviews, bibliographic and documentary researches, while the discussion and analysis of the data were performed based on content analysis of Bardin (2008) and, when appropriate, the use of simple descriptive statistics. The results highlight that there is a vacuum in management practices adopted in the public management of knowledge and, consequently, in environmental management university too, it was found that, despite of the large academic research on the subject studied, there is a gap in the dialogue between the various surveyed cores and the administration of the UFS, because the institutional structure is very departmentalized, hindering the promotion of interdisciplinarity. The dispersion of information on environmental research and the lack of an integrated database for storing them are consequences for shortfalls in knowledge management.
