Resumo: |
In view of the growing aging of the Brazilian population, and the emergence of the social category Older Persons, this matter is relevant in today’s scenario. Therefore, our paper presents some reflections on aging and its impact on the social dynamic as well as discusses the challenges the elderly faces for healthy longevity amid discrimination against them and visible social inequities which worsen the violence in family relationships, especially, against old women (BRASIL, 2014). Our study analyzed textual and socio-discursively testimonies of the elderly victimized in family relationships collected in May 2019 at the Police Department for the Protection of the Elderly and the Disabled in Aracaju-Sergipe, Brazil. Thereby we were able to reflect on family conflicts guided by power dissymmetries and ideologies between genders and generations with an emphasis on psychological and symbolic violence (THOMPSON, 2011). To do so, our qualitative research had the theoretical support of Critical Discourse Analysis as well as of the Social Sciences (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001, 2012; MINAYO, 2010). From our data we observed that the social problem of violence against the elderly inside families mainly affects old women in the form of psychological violence by attacking their honor through threats and verbal insults. |
