Resumo: The effects of live loads models for highway bridges design should represent the extreme effects of actual vehicle traffic in order to ensure the safety of these structures. In this context, the present work continues the line of research developed at COPPEUFRJ, to adjust live loads models for road bridges in Brazil. Based on a database of heavy vehicles, structural analysis and traffic simulation softwares already developed, this work focuses on simple and continuous bridge structures in two ranges of span lengths: 10 to 40m and 30 to 50m. For the structures with two main beams of the first group the analysis considers the free flow traffic, including the dynamic effects through the analysis of the interaction between pavement, vehicle and structure. The values of the obtained characteristic internal forces are taken by target values, to be reproduced by new configurations of live loads models found by a search process. The second group consists of structures with five main beams analyzed under the effects of free flow and congested traffic comparison between the internal forces resulting from both traffic conditions is presente as well as the verification of the compatibility of the target values with those generated by the live loads models developed from a different structural conceptional design.
