Resumo: | A study of flexible pavement design for airports, consisting of two main parts: 1) Historical Review of the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) Method, since its origin in 1928, describing work related to equivalent wheel load and the present criterium for its determination. 2) A computer program for the determination of equivalent single wheel load (ESWL), for any type of aircraft, using the CBR method. Variables taken into account: CBR value and Poisson ratio of subgrade soil, load, tire pressure and type of landing gear. The only variable not included is the "coverage" which depends on the load repetition and is taken into consideration through a percentage of thickness required, but does not enter directly into the computations. The program is valid for CBR values not greater than 12, because of limitations from theory. As part of design parameters analisys, the influence of each variable into thickness determination is shown for three different types of landing gears. In Appendix I, the determination of coverage is shown in a pratical example. Appendix II presents a general guidance and some shortcuts for flexible pavement design whenever a computer is not avaliable. |
