Resumo: | The taxonomy of recent representatives of the genus Nassarina Dali, 1889 for the Westem Atlantic is examined at generic and specific leveis. It is known that the genus is represented in the Atlantic Ocean by seven species, ali from the Westem Atlantic coast: N bushiae (Dall, 1889); N glypta (Bush, 1885); N maculata (C. B. Adams, 1850); N. metabrunnea Dali & Simpson, 1901; N minar (C. B. Adams, 1845); N manilifera (Sowerby, 1844) and N thetys Costa & Absalão, 1998. Two of them, N minar and N thetys, are present on the Brazilian seashore. After a conchiliological comparison, we confirmed the taxon Psarastala Rehder, 1943 as a junior synonym of Nassarina Dali, 1889 and we increased the synonymic list of Nassarina by adding Steiranepian Pilsbry & Lowe, 1932 and Turrijaumelia Sarasúa, 1975. There is no known synonym for N. bushiae Dali 1889, type species of the genus, and for N. metabrunnea Dali & Simpson, 1901. For N. glypta, we confirmed the following synonyms: Calumbel/a (Ati/ia ?) mystica Dali, 1927; Nassarina da/li Olsson & Harbison, 1953 (Fossil); and the new synonym Clathurel/a eversani Tippett, 1995. Turrijaume/ia jaumei Sarasúa, 1975 is a junior synonym of N. maculata. The lectotype designation of Nassarina minar by CENCH & TURNER (1850) was based on a misidentification, thus acting against the stability of the name. The lectotype replacement has already been proposed to the lntemational Commission of Zoological Nomenclature. The following species are synonyms of N. manilifera: Pleuratamafusca/ineata C. B. Adams, 1845; Pleuratama scalpta Reeve, 1846; Calumbella telea Duelos, 1848; Psarasta/a manilifera sparsipunctata Rehder, 1943; and Pleuratama pygmaea C. B. Adams, 1850, new synonym. Nassarina thetys is assigned only to the Brazilian coast, where it is found from Amapá (North) to the north of Rio de Janeiro state (Southeast). |
