Resumo: The present doctoral thesis brings the amazonian space as the central axis of its discussion based on a critical reading promoted within Euclidean writings, precisely in the chronicles present in À margem da história (1909), which allows the establishment of a complaint analysis of the state omission that generates environmental and social chaos in that locality. Therefore, we established as a general objective of the research to recognize how Euclides da Cunha, from the socio-political-environmental context, re-signifies the deterministic philosophical proposal through the particularities of nineteenth-century Brazil. This course is built on the discussion of the abusive advantage of capital in relation to nature and man, the identification of the resumption of the subjectivity of nature as an extension also for those equally excluded vulnerable groups and the response of how criticism to the state, in the euclidean writings on the amazonian space, can be analyzed as a re-reading of the deterministic proposal and an adaptation in the brazilian soil. At the methodological level, research is supported by the hypothetical-deductive method. Qualitative in relation to the approach. As regards nature, it is interdisciplinary and inclusive, and exploratory in relation to the objectives. Already for the procedures, it is bibliographical. In the case of Alier (2017), Boff (2004), Garrard (2006), Hannigan (2009), Hatoum (2002), Leff (2006, 2009 and others), Lima (1997), Löwy (2005 and others), Ventura (1996), among others, support our discussions. The results allow the verification that, with the beginning of the criticism of the republican model soon after the events in Canudos, Euclides da Cunha adopts a writing that criticizes the way in which the national state observes and manages the spaces and the peripheral populations, in the corpus precisely delimited as the amazonian area and the northeastern population that migrated to the region of the rubber plantations in search of better living conditions. With the aid of the environmental and eco-critical discussions, we are given the necessary support to propose a re-reading of the determinist perspective printed by the aforementioned author for the national scenario, starting with the insertion of the element omission as a primordial factor for the delay of national development and establishment of chaos environmental and social. With the rereading of euclidean determinism, it is possible to observe and conclude that the "state practice of action" elected by the elites that holds the national political power, even before that historical period, is the act of omission, the same that lasts until the present day, always being the state to delegate to individuals and other agents the duty to act that is primarily theirs.
