Resumo: This work is inserted in the field of Music Education, prioritizing the musical teaching- learning process in the context of social projects, having as a locus of research the Banda Marcial Padre Nicola Mazza, who is subordinate to the Associação Irmãs de Padre Mazza. The main purpose of this research was to understand the reasons that motivated the students to decide to follow the path of music as a profession. The restlessness arose from the significant number of students, of the said martial band, whose main source of income is work originating from music. This research represents a qualitative case study. The data collection procedures were the semistructured interview and documentary source. The research was theoretically based on bibliographical readings about Education, focusing on Musical Education in social projects, Sociology of music and related areas. The results revealed that there was a combination of factors that contributed to the decision of some graduating students to become music professionals, such as the developed musical practice, the motivation, the religious and ideological charisma of the institution.
