Resumo: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of social changes in the formation of today's family as regards the relationship between mothers of babies and employees of a day care center run by the city government in João Pessoa - Paraíba with that institution. In particular, the piece of research intended to identify the perception of the mothers and the nurses, Berçários I and II, about the work developed with the babies in that institution. The interviews were carried out by the author of this research project in the day care center or in the interviewees' residence, all of which were fully recorded and transcribed. The study was based on the descriptive and qualitative method, and the data obtained was analyzed using the Content Analysis Method. In the discussion, we identified the perceptions of the interviewees about the day care center and the work developed there. During the interviews, there were manifestations of distress and strangeness on the part of mothers, infants and nurses, due to the lack of time for the adaptation of the actors involved in the situation. Finally, based on the comparison between the theories used, the Political-Pedagogical Project and the practice of the institution, important aspects have been highlighted and these should be effectively implemented, not only in that day care center but in all other institutions of early childhood education.
