Resumo: The actinic cheilitis is an inflammatory alteration of the lips, more prevalent in individuals of white skin color that exposure of chronic form to the solar radiation. It can presents degrees of dysplasias and can suffering malignant transformation in squamous cells carcinoma in 6 the 10% of the cases. The fisherman, whose profession activity related with the solar exposition in chronic way, constitute a aim population with bigger probability to develop the actinic cheilitis. The general objective of this study was to study the prevalence of actinic cheilitis in the individuals registered in the fisherman colonies of the paraibano coast. Through a descriptive study, transversal, observational with quantitative approaching, a sample consisting of 90 fisherman with age above of 18 years old was selected randomly. The data of the study had been collected through anamnesis and physical examination of the lips, realized by the responsible of the research, after that worked through descriptive analysis and displayed through graphs. The results show that the prevalence of the actinic cheilitis was of 9%; All the lesions of actinic cheilitis had been located in the inferior lip and the masculine gender; The arithmetic mean of the age was of 40,7 years; The majority of affected patients 67% presented white skin color; The arithmetic mean of profession time was of 22,6 years; Only 33% had affirmed to protect your lips of the sun radiation, being the straw hat the method fotoprotetor more remembered and used, respectively by 25% and 23% of the fisherman affected for the actinic cheilitis. We conclude that the constant exposition of the fisherman population to the sun exposure becomes then more predisposted to the development of the actinic cheilitis.
