Resumo: | The objective of this thesis was to evaluate the ocular screening and neurocognitive functions of men and women with and without exposure to the organic solvent mixture. Thus, this thesis is divided into two studies. Study 1: aimed at recording the number and duration of fixations of subjects with and without exposure to the organic solvent mixture, more specifically to verify if the exposure affects differently the responses of exposed women and men, correlating the results to some Indices of body composition. Participants were 44 volunteers (M age = 27.59, SD = 6.34). We used the 250 Hz High-Speed Video Eye Tracker Toolbox, bioimpedance analysis and sociodemographic questionnaire. The results indicated that the study group had longer fixations (t = 3.82, p = 0.001, r = 0.51) and significantly longer duration (t = 4.27, p = 0.001, r = 0.54) Than the control group. However, the results did not show significant differences between women and men exposed (number of fixations: p = 0.42, duration of fixations: p = 0.79), as well as no correlation between eye tracking pattern and measurements of body composition. Study 2 aimed to evaluate the attention, executive functions and short-term memory of individuals with and without exposure to the organic solvent mixture, more specifically if exposure affects the responses of men and women differently, correlating these results with some indices of body composition. Participants were 56 volunteers (M age = 27.80, SD = 6.70). We used the Trail Making Test (TMT) A and B, Rey Complex Figure (FCR) Copy and Memory, bioimpedance analysis and sociodemographic questionnaire. The results indicated lower performance of the exposed women compared to those not exposed in all tests (p < 0.05) and lower performance of the exposed men compared to those not exposed in the TMT-A, FCR-Copy and Memory tests. However, in the comparison between the sexes the results did not show significant differences (p > 0.05). However, the exposed women showed a significant correlation between the RHR-Copy performance with water, weight, fat mass, lean body mass and the exposed men presented a significant correlation between TMT-B with Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) and fat visceral. In general, it is considered that organic solvents may affect ocular fixation movement and neurocognitive functions, but the effects vary according to neurocognitive tests and body composition index, regardless of gender. |
