Resumo: The cultural identity of a subject is a complex socio-historical construction that involves several aspects, such as: interpersonal relationships, territoriality, memory, discourse, collective experiences, artistic manifestations, among others. This research aims to understand the process of building the musical identity of self-taught popular musicians from Varjota-CE through the analysis of experience reports. The methodology used was the study of multiple cases, of a basic nature, qualitative approach, explanatory objective and elaborated through the technical procedures of interdisciplinary bibliographical research and field research, having as theoretical and analytical reference the Cultural Studies on identity and human displacement, as well as elements of Discourse Analysis (DA) as a method of analyzing oral reports. From the analysis of the results of the case studies, we found that the musicians from Varjota had their personal trajectories marked by the migratory process, which also caused significant sociocultural changes, due to the contact with other immigrants and with local residents. Therefore, the relationships established through contact with other subjects took place through collective musical experiences in the social sphere, which contributed to the construction of the musical identity of local musicians.
