This dissertation environmental health as the object of analysis and development. The interaction between health and environment is perceived from Hippocrates in ancient Greece, being developed and adapted to each historical period. Various theories presented to justify given disease and its development were linked often vectors that are in the environment, therefore, studies begun in their natural habitat. In Brazil, with its late industrial development compared to the capital center of the country, a number of changes developed into its structure, from rural to urban, a disorderly urbanization with population growth in cities with significant percentage of people in poverty and misery. Without many health conditions, access to services was selective and promotion / prevention basically does not exist. When determining, as well as social and environmental determinants of health were taking spaces in meetings and health care events, with important participation of social movements that have managed great achievements, aspects such as social inequality present in the country come to the bulge determinants social health, which enabled the deepening of the studies to the evidence of the environmental justice movement. Intending to work these nuances that go beyond the health issues, interdisciplinarity is a key tool in the search for answers and solutions to the problem, because when the separation areas was won by collective work, respecting their limits, was unquestionable social gain for everyone. The objective of this dissertation is to seek to approach the concept of environmental health, its historical background, their chances to find a new practice in Social Work and increments studies. The methodology is based on the survey and literature review on the issues in the intention of giving subsidies to continue this work. It can be inferred with this study that the social and environmental determinants are important to understand the forms that occur in the health-disease. Environmental injustice is also an analytical tool, because the action of society on certain population causes problems in health and environment. Social work is present in many occupational areas, as well as develop their work in the consolidated public policies historically - health care, housing - working towards the establishment of a national environmental health policy and new concepts contribute to the integration of the actions of others the country's policies as part of their challenges and struggles in contemporary times.
