Resumo: | INTRODUCTION: The aging process causes, in turn, changes in health demands. Thus, from this juncture, the need for Long-Term Care in patients, often also due to insufficient family support, is observed. Considered as a geriatric syndrome, depression is related to the impairment of health and quality of life, in addition to high rates of morbidity and mortality, which is a public health problem. Depression in the elderly is highly prevalent and is considered a factor associated with suicide and early death. The structural changes of families, in the performance of their roles, in reducing their size and in family arrangements, interfere in the availability of people to care for the elderly dependent at home, causing the transfer of responsibility for this care to the Long-Term Care to eldery people. Many elderly people deny the existence of the disease and do not seek adequate professional follow-up. Professionals face difficulties in the diagnosis and treatment of depression. OBJECTIVE: To propose a nursing history for institutionalized elderly people with subsidized depression in the theoretical model of BHN, to identify, based on the literature review, empirical indicators in institutionalized elderly people with depression; to classify the empirical indicators identified based on Wanda Horta's Theory of Basic Human Needs; to confirm the usefulness of empirical indicators for professional practice and to build, based on validated indicators, a nursing history for institutionalized elderly people with depression. METHOD: This is a methodological research developed in Long-Term Care in the cities of Recife/PE and João Pessoa/PB with the participation of five nurses using the theoretical framework of Wanda Horta's Theory of Basic Human Needs between July and November 2018. The research was developed in the following stages: 1- Integrative literature review for identification of empirical indicators in the evaluation of the elderly with depression in LTC. These indicators will be classified according to the Basic Human Needs of Horta; 2- Confirmation of the utility for the professional practice of empirical indicators with nurses. For each indicator, the Content Validity Index will be calculated. 3 - Structuring the nursing history with the empirical indicators that obtained a Content Validity Index≥ 0.80 among nurses, following the ethical principles recommended by the National Health Council for human research. An instrument was constructed to collect data from the nursing consultation and, finally, the validation of the content of the instrument. RESULTS: In this work, we developed, from empirical indicators, an instrument of nursing history, in order to assist and build technical knowledge with the autonomy of the nursing professional for institutionalized elderly people with depression. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: from the research undertaken here and from the development of the nursing history, it is possible to confirm the need for attention of the nursing professionals to the elderly in a depressive state, since through the use of diagnostic tools and a Nursing History information can be obtained from the disease, and may help in appropriate treatment so that it can prevent it from reaching the last stage of the disease: suicide. |
