Resumo: Introduction: The increased elderly population, added to socioeconomic and cultural difficulties that involve elderly people and their relatives and/or caregivers, the impairment of the health of the elderly person and the family, the absence of caregiver at home and family conflicts, demand for long-term institutions for elderly people, as well as the need to rethink care for institutionalized seniors with a view to promoting their health. Objectives: To identify, based on the literature, the indicators related to the diagnosis of loneliness in institutionalized elderly people and to propose a protocol of nursing interventions for the senior with diagnosis of loneliness at a Long-Term Institution. Method: This is a methodological study developed in three stages: the first was an integrative review of the literature on the interventions related to loneliness in institutionalized elderly people, the second was the construction and validation of nursing interventions for the nursing diagnosis “Loneliness” and the third was the elaboration of the protocol of Nursing Interventions to the senior with diagnosis of Loneliness at Long-Term Institutions. Results: The integrative review consisted of 22 primary studies that demonstrated a production of researches related to the institutionalized elderly person with loneliness, the main interventions identified were non-pharmacological therapeutic approaches that contributed to decreasing social isolation among elderly residents. For the construction and validation of nursing interventions for the nursing diagnosis “Loneliness”, a research was applied, developed based on the guidelines of the International Council of Nurses-CIE, the Seven-Axis Model of CIPE®, the Reference Terminology Model of ISO 18.104: 2014 and the Nursing Interventions Classification-NIC. The nursing interventions corresponding to the nursing diagnosis “Loneliness” were included in an instrument to be submitted to the process of validation by specialists. For the validation process, six judges were selected, reaching a concordance index of 0.92, higher than what the literature recommends. After the suggestions of the judges, one sought to adapt the items that formed the protocol, making it a clear and feasible instrument. Conclusions: Based on the approach used, the study has an important contribution in the systematization of care for the institutionalized elderly person, since its developed instrument will subsidize nursing care in an efficient and reliable way, contributing, above all, to the quality of life of this clientele
