Resumo: Introduction: Commonly, there is a profile of women who seek certain contraceptive methods. Therefore, the association of factors with the intention of inserting the IUD and tubal ligation has been the subject of studies in the area of women's health. Objective: To analyze the factors related to the intention of IUD insertion and tubal ligation by women assisted in a teaching hospital. Method: documentary, analytical, exploratory retrospective study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with medical records of women in a teaching hospital, in the period of June 2022. In the data collection, two instruments were used that dealt with the sociodemographic and gynecological-obstetric profile of women . In the univariate analysis, absolute and relative frequencies were estimated for categorical variables, mean and standard deviation for numerical variables. In the bivariate analysis, Pearson's chi-square association test and Poisson regression analysis were performed, and the prevalence ratio was calculated with the respective 95% confidence intervals. Data were processed using SPSS software version 22.0. The research project was approved under protocol number 5,370,528 and protocol CAAE 57252122.0.0000.5183. Results: A total of 234 medical records were researched, 132 of which were for IUDs and 103 for tubal ligation, investigating the city of origin, age and number of children for IUD; age, marital status, occupation, education and color for tubal ligation; number of pregnancies, deliveries, abortions, type of delivery, use of contraceptive methods, difficulty in continuing with the method for both methods and reflexive questions for tubal ligation. A statistically significant association was found between the intention of inserting the IUD and women with a mean age of 28 years, with 1 or 2 live children and 1 or 2 pregnancies, as well as the intention of having a tubal ligation performed and women with a mean age of 32 years, who do not have paid work, income of up to 2 minimum wages and more than 2 living children. Conclusion: The correlation of factors with the intention to search for the methods aimed to know the profile of women who seek a teaching hospital for this purpose, highlighting the need to build evidence based protocols in order to devise strategies to break organizational and individual barriers regarding adherence to methods.
