Resumo: Introduction: Leprosy is a chronic, infectious disease, with high disabling potential and endemic in Brazil. The development of disabilities and physical deformities resulting from the disease cause great damage to the daily life of affected people. For the elimination, control and treatment of leprosy, it is necessary to design and implement effective strategies, and among them, the promotion of self-care stands out. To guide the practice of self-care, educational technologies are considered useful tools for promoting health education. Objective: To create an educational manual to support the self-care practices for people with leprosy. Method: Methodological research, developed in two stages: 1) Bibliographic review and 2) Preparation and construction of the manual. Results: The manual was prepared containing 112 pages, divided into two volumes, which contain a presentation and seven sections. Volume I, with 48 pages, includes the sections: "knowing about leprosy", "knowing about the treatment", "taking care of my diet", "taking care of my body", "useful contacts", "references and medication calendar". Volume II, with 64 pages, includes the sections: “taking care of the skin”, “taking care of the face”, “taking care of the hands”, “taking care of the feet”, “adaptations”, “useful contacts” and “references”. Conclusions: Educational material, built to guide the practice of self-care for people with leprosy, based on scientific evidence, with clear content and language, and with the intention of filling existing gaps in the health care provided to this population. It is expected that this material effectively contributes to the promotion of self-care and quality of life for those people.
