Resumo: This dissertation aimed to verify the effects of violent album covers on aggressive thoughts and feelings. Validate and gather evidence of psychometric adequacy for the Hostile Status Scale and Word Completion Task. To this end, three studies were conducted with undergraduates. In Study 1, an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was performed. From the principal components analysis, good factor loadings were verified in a single factor structure, with alpha of 0.83. In Study 2, a correlation followed, the results showed a significant correlation between Hostility Status and Aggressive Cognitions (r = 0.26), p <0.01. The measure has factorial and convergent validity, besides being accurate and can be used in future studies. In Study 3, in turn, a multiple variance analysis (MANOVA) was performed, with marginally significant effects of the covers on aggressive thoughts, F (2,147) = 2,694, power = 0.53, partial eta2 = 0.035, p = 0.07. Pairwise comparisons (multiple comparisons), in turn, showed that the difference is between the cover of the control group and the experimental group 2 (Legacy of Kain), p = 0.035, as expected.
