Resumo: The main objective of this thesis is to dissect on the itinerary of the economist Edvaldo de Souza do Ó and his social networks built along his trajectory in the context of Higher Education in the city of Campina Grande (PB), in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The investigative path went through his personal archives, found in the Edvaldo do Ó Foundation and in the Granja Solidão, including his library, in which is deposited his entire private collection, from documents, books and photographs, to annals of the periodical Gazeta do Sertão. Sirinelli (1998; 2003) and his concepts on sociabilities, networks, and intellectual microclimate are used as the foundation for the discursive webs where Edvaldo do Ó went through, leaving marks and contributions as an intellectual from Campina Grande, based on the relationships he built. In this vein, we seek to interpret the participation of this character as a Campinense intellectual active in the educational environment, making a relationship with the development of the city. The sociability relations were marked by the urban and Campinense intellectual elite, formed not only by graduates, but also by businessmen, descendants of rural oligarchies, and politicians. It was in this scenario that Edvaldo do Ó was inserted and idealized projects aimed at urbanization, with the intention of encouraging a rapid industrialization and, later on, of recognizing and transforming the city of Campina Grande into an educational pole. Given this, the present thesis enunciates how Edvaldo do Ó consolidated himself as an engaged intellectual, committed to the development of his city in the aspects of the Campina Grande educational reality from his trajectory of intellectual production.
