Resumo: Environmental crisis has become one of the greatest challenges facing mankind in the 21st century due to the climatic events that many times are caused by anthropic activities. Thus, in Brazil, Conservation Units (CU) play a fundamental role in the protection and preservation of the country’s fauna and flora. This work aimed to understand the interrelationship between the residents of the buffer zone and collaborators of the Nacional Park of Sete Cidades (NPSC), with animals that live outside and inside the Conservation Unit through Environmental Education (EE). This research was conducted from the theoreticalmethodological assumptions of the qualitative and quantitative approaches. Initially, bibliographic research was conducted based on the litrature review of the authors working with EE and Environmental Perception, which served as support to boost the elaboration and execution of theoretical and field research. The execution of the research began in May 2018, with a survey of the area that would be researched and literature review, and in February 2019, after approval by the Ethics Committee, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. with the residents (n = 28) of the Cachoeira community, located around the PNSC and (five) employees of the Conservation Unit. In general, the results showed positive aspects of the use of workshops through videos, toys (rubber animals) and the creation of posters with the fixation of photographic images of vertebrate and invertebrate animals. These activities fostered discussions and reflections that made sensitization pleasurable and interactive among those involved. It can be considered that the playful activities incorporated in non-formal EE are viable for the sensitization of the residents, and may provoke a change of attitudes in the less educated individuals. Thus, understanding the values and benefits for environmental balance becomes easier to assimilate from EE. From this perspective, it can be concluded that, even though a limited amount of activities were carried out, the research contributed to a beginning of awareness among residents of the Cachoeira community about the importance of conserving the biodiversity of the fauna, and to understanding the importance of the Park to the lives of the residents of the buffer zone. This interaction can generate employment (as brigade members), income and a better quality of life for the region's residents.
