Resumo: The Hospital Chaplaincy provides spiritual and religious assistance to sick person within the hospital institutions contributing to the recovery of meaning, since the life trajectory of a sick person suffers a paralysis caused by the pain, limitations even mutilations caused by the disease. In this sense, Hospital Chaplaincy, within contributes a field of theology, contributes to the expansion of care to the sick person, as far as your religiosity and spirituality are concerned, in order to seek the rebalance of health. This research aimed to measure the contribution of the Hospital Chaplaincy Service, with regard to spirituality and, therefore, to evaluate the relevance of this service in the attitude of religious confrontation experienced by cancer patients. We use a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive approach, using the oral history method in ten patients undergoing chemotherapy. In this process, after conducting the interviews, we perform the integral transcription and textualization of the speeches, enabling the identification of the vital tone of each speech and sense nuclei with establish a guiding thread in the common meaning of the narratives. The nuclei of meaning identified were: faith, religious habits, routine losses and changes, dependence and support, review of values, the role of doctors and medicines and the role of Hospital Chaplaincy. The narrated histories presented paths of challenges, overcoming, guilts and hope, amplifying the understanding of the process experienced in the treatment of cancer, with are translated mainly by an increase in faith and religiosity. Cancer reduces the patient’s hopes, with requires that the spiritual dimension as a component of the integrality of the human being, receive the care of religious minister, this being an indication for the exercise of spiritual support of the patient, with corroborates for the promotion of integral care. Hospital Chaplaincy thus contributes a service of spiritual and religious assistance with, respecting the religious creed of each person can be offered by hospital institutions, joining with other knowledge and actions of the health sciences to enable the integral care to the sick person.
