Resumo: Despite the conceptual understanding of integrating sustainability into project management, the literature still provides few practical guidelines on how to apply sustainability concepts to project management. The close relationship between project management and stakeholder management (individuals, groups or organizations that can affect, be affected, or if they feel affected by a decision, activity or result of a project), has been presented as an alternative in the objective of incorporate sustainability in project management. This research aims to analyze the involvement of stakeholders in projects oriented to sustainability and, based on a systematic review of the literature, it was possible to identify constructs that supported the application of case studies under the perception of project managers. The results of these studies showed that projects with a compliance orientation, that is, that are in compliance with laws and regulations, tend to involve stakeholders less in the project phases, presenting restricted and formal communication, making it difficult for them to engage and, consequently , building less values for those involved. Projects with a more proactive and innovative orientation, on the other hand, manage to reach them in greater numbers, through direct and informal communication and the construction of values more directed to sustainability. As a contribution, proposals for improvements in the management of stakeholders are delivered, these being the promotion of the development of sustainability skills, the creation of goals and guidelines for the participation of stakeholders, the promotion of cooperation between them, the development of environmental awareness, empowerment iteration means and the promotion of greater communication in the projects.
