Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate, by an inductive way, through a questionnaire, the dentists of the Family Health Units (USF) in João Pessoa / PB city, about their knowledge related to Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART). The sample comprised of 117 dentists that were working in the units and agreed to participate in the study, during the collection data period. Using a 5% statistical significance, the analysis was made by descriptive techniques and chi-square and Fisher's exact statistical tests. 75.2% of the respondents were female and 81.7% had attended at least post graduate degree. Most professionals (84.6%) claimed to have knowledge about ART, however, only 54.4% knew how indicate and contraindicate its use. Significant statistical association were observed between knowledge about ART and post graduate degree and time of college graduation (p <0.05). Most professionals believed in ART effectiveness and its applicability in public service. It can be concluded that the dentists didn't had a knowledge degree about ART. Wherefore, it is necessary to establish training programs for these professionals in order to clarify its importance to adopt this technique as another option in the treatment of dental caries.
