Resumo: Acoustic barriers are one of the solutions usually adopted to reduce traffic noise. However, as well as being a noise obstacle, they also have a visual impact. It is known that underpasses on highways have been used to avoid at-level intersections between roads. This level difference can act as an acoustic barrier because it contributes to noise reduction in surrounding areas and has the advantage of less visual impact. To evaluate the potential of the noise attenuation due to underpass, noise level measurements at points of interest, noise predictions with CoRTN model expressions and computational modeling of the whole urban area using SoundPLAN® software were carried out. The CoRTN model was able to predict noise in the surroundings of the underpass and quantified its noise attenuation by 11,8 dB(A). This noise prediction model proved to be reliable and has representative results compared to the results obtained by SoundPLAN®, which quantified sound attenuation at 11.9 dB (A) and 12.4 dB (A). Finally, after modeling several scenarios with different heights and adding "L" detail on the edge, it was confirmed that the underpass is effective as a solution to minimize the traffic noise.
