Resumo: This research began with my own questions regarding the practice of orchestral excerpts during my academic training. From the difficulties experienced due to the lack of contact with this repertoire during my musical training, I’ve became interested in better understanding the universe of orchestral repertoire for the violin and its technical requirements. Given that orchestral excerpts are indispensable materials for evaluating violinists in various occasions, such as orchestral auditions as well as auditions for music festivals. To better understand the context of violin teaching in today’s world, a historical approach was taken on its teaching, going through violin schools and the main methods that emerged over the centuries, based on the concept established by Bosisio (1996). With this understanding, we observed works such as the doctoral thesis by Brandolino (1997) and Chang (2014) to propose a student approach to the practice of orchestral excerpts as an alternative to bring violin students closer to this literature during their bachelor's degree in music. Hence, the thesis proposes that it is possible to bring the student closer to the practice of excerpts, even in an introductory way, apart if there is a specific class in the university curriculum, through its use as technical application material in a similar way and associated with the etudies methods traditionally used. For this purpose, we have compared the technical aspects discussed in current methods, such as I. Galamian (1962) and C. Flesch (1987) with those that appear in the excerpts, in order to draw a parallel between them. Therefore, we defend the thesis that orchestral excerpts can be applied as a method of applied technique for the violin teaching.
