Resumo: This work aimed to investigate the structure and rules of cooperation as factors that generate income in a cooperative of recyclable material in Campina Grande-PB. The purpose of this work was to generate a theoretical debate on the academy, the state, and civil society organizations about the changes in the working world, whose base is an economic system where the profit is the main goal. In this context, economic measures pressured the productive restructuring of companies and resulted in considerable increase in unemployment, the expansion of precarious work arrangements, as in the case of cooperative work, contractors, self-employed and informal. The informal organization generates a large mass of organizations with an operational structure precarious, with mismanaged work modes, low capitalization and with few resources that become income. This is the case of cooperatives of recyclable material, which mobilize the labor of hundreds of workers who have no other means of survival. This study sought to understand the dynamics of running one of these informal enterprises based on solidarity economy regime, the oldest cooperative of recyclable materials in the state of Paraíba - COTRAMARE. Empirically, the study is based on a qualitative approach, conducted through field research and ethnographic, with supporting documentation and bibliography. Regarding the results of the survey, it was found that the work done by the collectors of recyclable material is still far from being considered worthy by way of conceptual International Labour Organization (1999). The work for this category can not be considered at all productive for not having a physical and organizational structure appropriate to the development of selective collection process and also to encourage improvement in the quality of life of the worker within the organization. Moreover, this is an unhealthy profession, finding stability without labor rights and human resources and income generation.
