Resumo: The aim of the present work was to determine the soroposity of hepatitis type B and type C in the dentists of Caruaru – PE city. The sample was made by 80 professionals. All dentists were submitted to an interview about their time of graduation, specialty, checking vaccination against hepatitis type B, previous blood transfusion and use of individual protection equipment. A blood collection was also made to serologic exams (HBsAg and anti-HCV) to hepatitis type B and type C. The average of time of graduation was 17,35 years. Fifty two percent of the professional report biologic material accident. The results showed that 75% had complete hepatitis type B vaccination. Only 26,25% wear individual protection equipment (IPE) properly. In relation to the soroposity, it was confirmed 2 cases of hepatitis type b and o 1 case of hepatitis type C, representing a rate of 2,5% and 1,25%, respectively. It is concluded that the vaccination rate in dentists is not the ideal yet. It is also low the rate of complete IPE use. However, the incidence of hepatitis type B and type C were low at the studied sample.
