Resumo: | Certifications in Information Technology (CIT) occupy a considerable space in the discussions in the area (Benham, 2006). As a certification modality focused on competences, it becomes an object of study relevant to the field of social psychology at work by encompassing common concepts in the field. The present study sought to explore this theme through a qualitative research, in the form of thematic content analysis, with information technology professionals (ITP) from a capital city in the northeast of Brazil, to understand their conception about the CIT’s. As a theoretical contribution, Zarifian (2001; 2001b; 2003; 2009) was used to define competence and studies on Competence Recognition, Validation and Certification (CRVC) (Umbelino, 2006; Marques, 2007; Cartaxo 2009; Nico, 2009; Lima, 2012; Cavaco, 2016) were used to analyze the results. The results showed that the professionals consider this type of certification to be relevant, but explained some limitations in relation to the criteria and methods used to assess competences. At the end, some notes were made as proposals for improvements based on the results obtained. |
