Resumo: | This work is linked to the Popular Education Line, of the Graduate Program in Education at the Federal University of Paraiba (PPGE-UFPB) and aims to investigate through the narratives of educational agents the limits and possibilities of education in the context of socialization and humanization in prisons, based on questions such as: How can education contribute to the process of socialization and humanization of people in situations of restriction and deprivation of liberty? Thus, in order to answer this question, we aim to understand the dimension of education in the processes of ressocialization and humanization of people in situations of deprivation of liberty from the perspective of educational agents at the Maximum Security Penitentiary Doctor Romeu Gonçalves de Abrantes, in João Pessoa, Paraiba. And, more specifically, seek: i) to investigate how the extramural social reintegration of detainees at the Maximum Security Penitentiary Doctor Romeu Gonçalves de Abrantes has taken place through education; ii) analyse the speeches of educational agents regarding educational practices aimed at the socialization and humanization of detainees; and iii) to identify the approaches and distances present in the educational practices of the Maximum Security Penitentiary Doctor Romeu Gonçalves de Abrantes regarding the socio-educational needs of the detainees in the perspective of guaranteeing human rights. As a methodological construction, a qualitative approach was used with the use of the narrative method, with the semi-structured interview being adopted for the generation of data, with the participation of five educational agents who enable, manage and implement educational actions and (self) biography. from this author, based on his experiences in prison, having as his research space the Maximum Security Penitentiary Doctor Romeu Gonçalves de Abrantes. The empirical material was analysed by Discursive Textual Analysis. The analysis revealed that the education offered in the institution is insufficient with a low level of effectiveness due to neglect with the wide offer of educational assistance inhibiting its contribution in the processes of socialization and humanization for social reintegration and prevention of recurrence. Despite the deficit in human and social practices, education in the unit provides possibilities for those who can access it with socializing and humanizing processes that are important for the recovery and learning of those deprived of their liberty. To overcome the difficulties, there is a lack of intervention by the public authorities and civil society with feasible policies to provide changes in the exercise of education, ensuring that policies are offered adequately, considering socio-educational needs from the perspective of human rights. |
