Resumo: Dysphonia is a symptom related to any difficult that compromise the natural emission of voice. In between various factors that influences vocal production, the emotions lived by the subject and his personality are striking characteristics on communication style. According to studies involving vocal behavior and personality, there is a relationship between both phenomena, however little is known about. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate which risk factors and which personality characteristics produce more influence on the behavioral dysphonia development. For this, it was used a case-control methodology. The final sample was composed by 93 participants with ages between 18 and 60 years, of both sexes, divided in two groups, according to two vocal assessment instruments: the general grade of the Visual Analogical Scale (VAS) and the total domain of the Voice Symptom Scale (VoiSS). The case group (CGA) was constituted by 52 participants with dysphonia and the control group (CGO) with 41 voluntary. Data collection was realized in the Integrated Voice Studies Laboratory, of the Federal University of Paraiba, in the sector of otorhinolaryngology of the Edson Ramalho Military Police Hospital, and the dermatology and nephrology ambulatories of the Lauro Wanderley University Hospital. For the data collection, it was used three questionnaires: The Vocal Screening Protocol, The Voice Symptoms Scale and a reduced validated version of the Five Big Factors Inventory, it was also realized a recording of the sustained /ɛ/ vowel for further auditory perceptive analysis, through the VAS. For the development of the decision model, it was used the logistical regression. All analysis was conducted in the R free statistical software, version 3.2.2. As results of this study, it was possible to observe that the more prevalent risk factors in case group were: talk too much, inadequate resting, speak loudly and speak fast, and in control group: speak too much, speak loudly, speak above the noise and speaking too much on telephone. The logistical regression model revealed that the variables related to behavior which influences dysphonia development are: inadequate resting and sing out of tune, and between the personality characteristics: extroversion and neuroticism. All those variables were classified as risk factors for voice problems too.
