Resumo: | INTRODUCTION: Quality of life has a multidimensional concept because it involves physical, social and emotional aspects, associating it with aging and retirement becomes an important reality for the elderly elder with the singularity of a population dedicated to ministerial exercise, with significant reduction of living with family members. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the quality of life of elderly elders; to know the opinion of elderly priest on retirement and to propose a Support Program for Elderly Priests. METHODOLOGY: This is a methodological study with a quantitative and qualitative approach. It was carried out in three stages: the first, concerns an integrative literature review with research; the second stage comprised a survey of 14 elderly elders, randomly chosen who agreed to participate in the survey, residing in João Pessoa/ Paraiba. Data were collected from November 2018 to February 2019 using WHOQOL - BREF and WHOQOL - OLD, from a semi-structured interview containing sociodemographic data and questions about retirement. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic content analysis technique. The third stage comprised the elaboration of a program to support the elderly elder subsidized in the opinion of the elderly priests. RESULTS: The mean ± standard deviation of age of the elders was 71.0 ± 6.6 years. All elders included in the study are retired. The average quality of life score was 4.2 ± 0.4 and 4.1 ± 0.4 for WHOQOL BREF and WHOQOL OLD, respectively. Satisfaction with health, with a mean score of 4.3 (± 0.6), the physical domain with a score of 4.0 (± 0.5), psychological with 4.2 (± 0.3), and social relationships with 4.2 (± 0.4). Regarding the environment, the average score was 3.8 (± 0.5). The first facet corresponding to the functioning of the sensory had a mean score of 4.1 (± 0.8); autonomy, with a mean score of 3.6 (± 0.6); the other facets obtained the following average scores: past, present and future activities with a score of 4.4 (± 0.5), social participation with 4.2 (± 0.3), death and dying with 4.3 (± 0) , 8), and intimacy with a mean score of 4.1 (± 0.8). The content analysis of the corpus formed by the 14 interviews showed four empirical categories: 1- Descriptions of retirement for elderly priest; 2 - Descriptions of activities carried out after retirement; 3 - Descriptions of the supports offered by the archdiocese to elderly priest and 4 - Descriptions of needs for elderly priest, with different units of records grouped into themes, according to the semantic content. FINAL THOUGHTS: There was a good quality of life for elderly elders, with regular satisfaction in the environmental domain and in the autonomy aspect. Elderly Priest consider retirement a reward for years of work, reflected in states of rest and tranquility, although they continue to exercise their priestly ministry. It turns out that at the end of the ministry, there is no support from the church. Subsidized in the data apprehended from the research after analysis, a Support Program for the Elderly Priest was proposed, with indications of support ascertained from the measurement of data on quality of life capable of meeting his needs in different dimensions of life such as: health, psychological support and social, laser and culture with a special physical space for the elders for a better quality of life. |
