Resumo: The great technological advances and the amplification in the production capacity, both resultants from the man‟s transforming action have provoked alterations in the environment and in society. Such changes cause a series of environmental problems which have been threatening the planet maintenance and life quality. It is then necessary and urgent the search for solutions, in order to guarantee sustainability, thus, the conjugation between comprehension of the complexity which involves the problematic of the environment as a socio-politic matter, and the formation of an environmental conscience is extremely relevant. Considering as basis the teaching of Geography, we propose a reflection about the relation of this discipline and its object the geographical space with the Environmental Education. From this reflection this dissertation aims to analyze the pedagogical practices of Geography teachers in elementary school (6th to 9th grade), related to environmental issues. The empirical research has been developed in seven public state schools located in the urban area of the city Cajazeiras PB, which have this teaching phase. The data has been obtained through bibliographical survey, as well as through questionnaires applied to these teachers with closed questions, which has allowed to reveal the profile of the interviewed ones, and open questions, which has identified in the quotidian practices that the teachers have knowledge about the importance of Geography as a basis discipline to the approach of environmental themes, since it is a science which has as study object the space produced through the relations between man X man and man X environment, thus making clear the existence of a narrow relation with the questions concerning the environmental thematic. This research has revealed to us through the subjects speeches that they have knowledge of these relations, and who use them to insert into their practice studies on the environment.
