Resumo: |
The general objective of the study is to analyze mental health training in nursing undergraduate courses, in relation to the transformations of this field of knowledge and practices in the Unified Health System. The specific objectives are to identify theoretical-practical and methodological curricular activities in the training of nurses related to mental health; and to discuss the conceptions of nursing undergraduate students and teachers about the training of nurses in mental health. It is a descriptive and exploratory study, with a qualitative approach. The study was carried out in the Nursing Undergraduate Courses of two Higher Education Institutions of a municipality in the interior of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, one of them being public and one private. Participants were students and professors of the Undergraduate Nursing Courses, possessing, initially, a documentary research phase, in which the curricular matrices of the courses were analyzed, through the teaching plans. Both professors and students were given semi-structured interviews. The documentary data collection was developed in the first semester and interviews in the second semester, both held in 2018. The selected teaching plans were submitted to documentary analysis. Data from the interviews were analyzed according to the thematic content analysis. Data analysis is presented in the Results and Discussion chapter through two scientific articles, being that the material coming from the documentary research is presented in Article 1, entitled Theoretical-practical and methodological approaches in nursing training for mental health. In its turn, the data from the field survey are presented in Article 2, entitled Mental Health in Nursing Training: conceptions of students and teachers in nursing undergraduation. It is considered that the theoretical-practical curricular activities studied, in most of the subjects analyzed, are inserted in a transversal and articulated way to other knowledge, showing that the theoretical dimension has accompanied the transformations in this field of knowledge and practices. Yet, the methodological dimension still needs to be clearer in relation to the insertion and the actions of students in the scenarios of promotion of mental health. The conceptions of students and professors about mental health education in nurses' education showed that there is, in both courses surveyed, the prevalence of an expanded understanding of mental health, understanding it as a field that transcends diseases and specialties, and which should be integrated into comprehensive and multidimensional care processes. The theoretical-practical scenarios and the methodologies of this training were diversified, merging resources used in the classroom, in community activities and health services, regardless of whether they are directly related to the mental health network. Yet, this formative process is occurring in a network of fragmented attention, with problems of access and scarcity of human and material resources. The insertion in the reality of the services brings a formative perspective that fosters the articulation of the ideal and the real, opening possibilities for new promotion strategies in mental health. |
