Fatores associados à experimentação de diferentes formas do tabaco entre escolares no município de Várzea Grande-MT

Resumo: The World Health Organization (WHO) considers smoking a pediatric disease is expanding. Concomitant use of tobacco products as cigarettes, chewing tobacco and hookah can generate harmful effects to human health, and no safe way for your consumption. The teenager becomes the main target of preventive and educational interventions aimed at interrupting the process of initiation of tobacco use and thus the installation of smoking.Objective: To analyze factors associated with smoking initiation and use of different forms of tobacco use among students in the city of Várzea Grande -MT. Methods: The sample comprised 495 students from schools in the public schools and private network located in the urban perimeter of the Várzea Grande, MT. Data analysis was performed descriptive analyzes, bivariate and multiple Poisson regression, using the Epi-Info 2000 version 3.5.1, version 10 and STATA (svy module).Results: The students belonged to the public school 89.7% and 10.2% for private schools. Experienced commercial cigarettes 27.8%, 19.7% and the hookah chewing tobacco 1.7%. The variables associated with smoking commercial cigarettes are owned by the age group of 16-19 years [PR = 5.93 (2.77, 12.66)] be the school goer at night [PR = 1.58 (1 , 12, 2.25)], work [PR = 1.60 (1.08, 2.37)] and living with smokers and is associated with experimentation of hookah the student was in the late teenage years [PR: 6 , 54 (2.79, 15.32)] be enrolled in private schools [PR = 2.23 (1.73, 2.88)] and perform work activities [PR = 1.80 (1.17, 2, 78)].Conclusion: The proportion of adolescents who tried smoking and hookah was high. Observed influence of school age, working activities and classes for the period of smoking initiation by these forms. Preventive measures that include forms of tobacco should be directed at adolescents in the school environment as a means of tobacco control.
