Resumo: This research is inserted in the field of higher education educational policies of the Group of Studies and Research in Higher Education Education - GEPDES of the Federal University of the State of Mato Grosso - UFMT, presenting as its central theme the expansion of technologist courses, CST, of State of Mato Grosso. The present research has as main objective to understand the expansion of the technologist education of public and private institutions in the state of Mato Grosso, and if this type of teaching was characterized as access to education in the state. The specific objectives were to analyze the historical aspects of technological education in Brazil and the state of Mato Grosso; identify how the policies for the expansion of technological courses in higher education are characterized by access to higher education; To identify the profile of the expansion of technological education in the state of Mato Grosso, covering the public and private categories from the LDB / 96. This research can be characterized as a qualitative research that articulates quantitative data to support the main discussions of the problematic approached, using the descriptive-analytical methodology. The choice of the methodology has as its main objective not to restrict the study to the description and analysis of statistical data, but also to understand the process of expansion of technologist higher education in the state of Mato Grosso. The quantitative approach was based on data analysis from the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira-INEP, from 1996 to 2017, considering historical aspects and access to higher education. This research assumes the concept of access as a form of qualitative analysis through data analysis. In both the Midwest and Mato Grosso states, there was an increase in the percentage of growth of the technological courses during the period analyzed in this research, and that the technological education is configured as a new modality of offer to higher education, however, in the public sphere. , this type of education highlights access to higher education. In the private sector, CST are ahead in the percentage of the offer of technologist courses within the state, but it is not configured as access to this type of education.
