Resumo: To understand the processes that determine the dynamics and behavior of the agents that act over and define events happening near a hydrographic basin is vital for the management of natural resources, specially the hydric ones. The main objective of this study is to characterize, through a morfopedologic approach, two draining bedsides that represent the high hydrographic basin of São Lourenço river, aiming for the interpretation of the hydric functionality of the water fountains. For this study, we defined two draining bedsides, located in the region of the city of Campo Verde – MT, named CD1-Aviário and CD2-Poço Azul, each one with different environment degradation levels. Theirs pedological units were investigated in details along the slopes, using toposequences developed through investigative polls along the main axis of the fountains, and keeping up with the land curves. The data about the use and occupation of the land on the studied areas were found through analysis of bibliography, technical pieces and field trips. The results indicate that the substitution of the original vegetal coverage for farming plantations caused changes on the water and soil behavior. The land use and occupation developed in the region greatly raised the possibilities of siltation, causing changes on the pedologic units. The changes along the draining bedside’s slope on CD1-Aviário caused the water level to lower and the water fountain to retreat. The hydric resources existent on its draining bedside are more likely to be contaminated because of the environment alteration level and its low depth into the ground. The studied areas have different kinds of water fountains. The results show that the current use of the soil near the approached bedsides do not grant the protection of its water resources, and also do not contribute for the management and functionality of the processes and relations between the agents involved on the whole context of these environments.
