Resumo: In Brazil, traditional historiography uses the process of colonization of that place as the starting point for its narratives. This is the case of Juína in Mato Grosso, and so many other municipalities that consider the history of the region from the arrival of the colonizers. Considering the multiple agents present in the occupation process, the research needs to consider the groups that already occupied the region before the arrival of the settlers, as well as understanding the processes that motivated the migrations of the settlers and the workers who moved to the region. The central objective is to identify the social relations between indigenous and non-indigenous people during the (re)occupation process, from the perspective of the different actors involved. In order to achieve this objective, we initially identified the main authors who have carried out research on the colonization processes and on Juína, Vitale Joanoni Neto using the book “Fronteiras da Crença” (Frontiers of Belief) as a basis, and the book “A colonização oficial em Mato Grosso: ‘a nata e a borra da sociedade’ (Official colonization in Mato Grosso: the cream and the dregs of society) by the authors João Carlos Barrozo, Sueli Pereira Castro and Marinete Covezzi. Subsequently, authors were identified who narrated the process of occupation from the point of view of the colonizers, and from this authors were selected who explained the ideas behind colonizing thought, such as Marilena Chauí with the Founding Myth and Abdias Nascimento with the idea of the Myth of Racial Democracy. A study was carried out using bibliographic sources, complemented by recorded interviews collected by the Municipal Department of Education and Culture and made available for analysis.
