During the Regency period in 1838, was born the Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute (IHGB), an association which emphasized, among other things, the construction of a historical writing for the young Brazilian nation. Soon after, as a way to fulfill these purposes creates its Quarterly Magazine (RIHGB). This research discusses the historiographical operation undertaken by IHGB, from the analysis of the content carried in the pages of the journal of this institution. Was elected to both the RIHGB that circulated between 1839 and 1889, that is the beginning of their movement by the end of the Brazilian constitutional monarchy.
