Resumo: ABSTRACT: The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has led to a gradual increase in mortality rates around the world and has had an impact on the lives of the entire population. In this scenario, maternal mortality stands out as an important public health problem in Brazil. The loss of a woman due to causes related to pregnancy and childbirth does not only represent the loss of a life, an absolute number, but rather an event that has significant repercussions on the life of the family that experienced such a loss. These are unknown repercussions in the face of maternal death from COVID-19. Objective: To understand the repercussions of Maternal Death from COVID-19 in the family nucleus of a woman assisted by a university hospital, a reference for the obstetric care of women infected with COVID-19, in the municipality of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, and who evolved to death maternal. Methodology: Case study of the life history type with a qualitative approach, carried out in Cuiabá and in a city in the interior of the state. Data were collected through analysis of medical records, in-depth interviews and complementary interviews through digital means and through text messages via the messaging application. Thematic type content analysis was performed. The project was submitted and approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Hospital Universitário Júlio Muller and all participants signed the Free and Informed Consent Form. Results: The family experiences a complicated grieving process arising from the difficulty in accepting the maternal death from COVID-19 and the way in which they were notified of the death. An important repercussion of this maternal death, resulting from COVID-19, was the family breakdown and separation of siblings. In addition to the fact that the family was not a support network in this process. Final considerations: Maternal death has significant repercussions for the lives of families, both in the short and long term. Supporting families is fundamental in the scenario of maternal death, which has worsened even more as a result of the pandemic. Therefore, in these cases, it is important that there is this readjustment of health services to meet emerging needs due to such an experience.
