Resumo: This work is part of a major project called “The Water for the Future”, which has the aims to protect springs in the urban area of Cuiabá city, Mato Grosso state. The aim of this study was to investigate the physical, chemical, and bacteriological parameters of shallow groundwater in two basins and to compare their results in both basins. The simple were collected in five shallow wells was monitored, from April to December 2018, where two were located in the Para Tudo stream basin, two in the Sapateiro Stream basin and one was located in the watershed that was utilized as background. The finds of results indicated the fellow conditions of water quality: 1) The shallow water from both basins is contaminated by coliforms. It can be the result of a lack of adequate infrastructure of wells, irregular septic tanks, and raising animals; 2) It was not possible to confirm if the shallow groundwater in the Sapateiro Stream has been impacted by the land and use. The Para Tudo Stream basin area showed high concentrations in the most of physical, chemical, and bacteriological parameters compared to the Sapateiro Stream; 3) The electrical conductivity, bicarbonate alkalinity, pH, sodium, coliforms exceeded the Maximum Permissible Value of present legislation of drinking water quality, that can cause risk to the human health. In conclusion, the groundwater in both streams showed a level of concentration above the standard CONAMA 396/2008 and MS 2.914/2011 legislation of water quality and, it can cause risk to the population when used without appropriate treatment.
