The objective of this project was to carry out the environmental diagnosis of the Traíra stream microbasin and propose measures for solving the environmental problems that were diagnosed. The study area is the watershed of the Traíra stream that is inserted in the urban area of the municipality of Várzea Grande, in the state of Mato Grosso. The diagnosis was made using the VERAH method and covered areas of vegetation, erosion, solid waste, water and housing. The methodological scope included a) characterization of the microbasin vegetation; b) classification of susceptibility to soil erosion of the microbasin; c) diagnosis of the solid waste situation in the microbasin; d) evaluation of the water quality of the Traíra stream; e) characterization of the infrastructure of the dwellings present in the microbasin. In general, the population lacks basic sanitation services, such as sewage treatment services, rainwater drainage, efficient collection of solid waste and efficient public supply. Because of the urbanization process without the correct planning, the area of APP of the stream is not totally preserved, existing points with suppression of native vegetation and erosion of the soil.
