Resumo: This paper intends as a goal to understand relations between nurses and indigenous people at the moment when receiving care in the Federal Health Care System (SUS) taking into consideration the nurses` knowledge when dealing with the centrality of indigenous people`s body, within which ethnic and cultural conflicts emerge. Qualitative research refers to methodological ethnographic resources to describe situation and the vision of nurses when meeting indigenous people in the SUS healthcare system. Observations started since first contact until hospital admission, followed by interviewing the nurses that conducted the examination. 10 nurses who work in two different hospitals of the Cuiabá SUS, Hospital "Universitário Júlio Muller" and "Pronto Socorro de Cuiabá". Observation occurred between the months of October and November of 2014. As a nurse the researcher sought out to identify in the interethnic relations between the nurses and indigenous person in how far there exists a dialogue where both sides` knowhow about the body contribute to the therapy, as also if there is some reference in the nurse`s training which reflects this practice. According to SUS directives indigenous people have a right to receive an intercultural treatment, where the public sphere assures that these occur in the healthcare establishments and other sphere overarching interculturality and interethnic relations. In the daily frenzy of the routine the interviewed professionals the exercise of empathy and solidarity is mandatory and almost automatic, but there are circumstances in which one needs more than these qualities as to be able to serve someone well, in the case of this research, the indigenous body. The study about the practices of nurses elaborated from their own knowledge base and the application of these on the indigenous` body, where these applications were fabricated and oriented by their( dictates, lead us to unveil the interethnic and intercultural frontier. With this research we seek knowledge about the construction of relations between professionals and indigenous healthcare users as to make evident how these establish demands for the curricular directives and permanent education for healthcare professionals. Professional nurses especially those working in the public sphere come across the challenge of giving service to its user in their integrity, not only looking after the disease but also taking care of the patients necessities. The content analysis revealed that nurses don`t feel sufficiently trained by higher education , and therefore there is a pertinent discussion about the importance of interculturality in the giving of health service to the ill indigenous that seeks treatment outside their community, that being since first graduation in order to aid the nurse as to develop relations in which occurs the convergence of knowledge bases for a single focus: the care of the ill indigenous body.
