The objective of this essay is to study the Várzea Grande – MT city formation by punctuating the government interventions on changes in the urban space by the geographical perspective. Even though, the city is one hundred and forty eight years of existence, many of its neighborhoods present lack of infrastructure, which compromises the quality of life and the socio-economic growth of the city. To develop this study it was necessary to do the temporal analysis of urban planning of Várzea Grande, as soon as it is extremely important in the formation of urban spaces. Planned cities promote higher quality of life and they grow continuously, because they take into account the local demand needs and their future prospects while they are being planned. That became explicit in the neighborhoods studied in the city of Várzea Grande, because the planned ones have improved perspective, while the others got into a stagnation status.
