Resumo: The geographic space production in the uplands of Mato Grosso is directly linked to its natural potencial that, in the actual conjuncture, respond by a great part of its economic activities. In this context, the present work area was defined as the Ribeirão Grande water basin, a left margin affluent of the Teles Pires river located at the south part of Sorriso municipality, north region of Mato Grosso state (Brazil). The main objectives were the ambiental analysis of the basin and the verification of relations between the morphometric aspects of the land usage and, also, of these aspects with the geographic space production. The occupation and transformation occurred in the geographic space of Sorriso municipality was contextualized through the characterization of the basin natural elements and theoretical revision of the subjects and topics used. The work is based in the geosystemic theory, and used several geoprocessing methodologies and tools, particularly the Spring 5.7.1 and Arcgis 9.3 softwares, to develop detailed drainage network base and soil usage mapping. The analysis of the background sediment and landworks were used to take knowledge on the work area, soil usage data validation, description and analysis of the relevant elements for the work thematics. Having area of 415.3 km² and low drainage and water courses density, the Ribeirão Grande basin has fluvial hierarchy of fourth order, plane relief with tabular forms, 79% of agrobusiness usage and 20% of preserved areas, presenting several ambiental problems as consequence of its soil usage and space production.
