Resumo: Leishmaniasis belongs to a group of infectious and endemic diseases. Several infectious diseases can affect pregnancy, causing placental and fetal changes. However little is known how the tegumentary leishmaniasis, affects the gestation. The placental barrier determines the progress of infections. The placental barrier determines the progress of infections. Thus, the proposal of this study was To analyze the possible influences of Leishmania amazonensis infection on the pregnancy of BALB / c female mice For this, BALB /c females, divided into control group (n = 5) and infected group (n = 5) were used. At the 8th week of life, in the infected group, the amastigote forms of the parasite L. amazonensis were infected. After 8 weeks of infection, at the 16th week of life, females were submitted to mating. At 20 days of pregnancy, females were euthanized and the number of resorptions, fetal weight, and placentas collected, weighed and processed for morphological and morphometric analysis. The results of the number of fetuses, resorptions and placental efficiency did not show differences between groups. However, morphometric and morphological analysis showed important differences between groups. It can be observed that the mean areas of decidua, labyrinth and junctional zone of the control group were significantly higher in comparison to those in the infected group, there was also a breakdown in the morphological structure, with loss of delimitation between the areas in the infected group, mainly in the labyrinthine region Thus, the results showed placental changes that may compromise fetal development. However, further studies are necessary for the full understanding of pregnancy impairment during tegumentary leishmaniasis.
